SPL160 History
SPL 160.0
A market survey conducted by Burmek found that there was a need for a smaller Abbund machine with a lower level of automation. This was the basis for Burmek developing a completely new compact machine with a Saw unit and Milling unit in 1992. The machine received a new concept for gripping and positioning the workpiece, which made it possible to produce several workpieces simultaneously.
The new compact machine provided high production capacity despite its simple design and level of automation. The machine could also be equipped with machining units according to customer requirements, such as notch and tenon milling cutters.
SPL 160.1
In 1994, the installation was upgraded with a PC/PLC control system based on the same principle as the new SPL270-4 installation.
SPL 160.2
At the end of 1994, the design of the saw unit was revised and the saw tilt also became axis-controlled, and the gripper was improved for higher precision. The PC program was continuously improved with new functions and machining operations. The machining area of the machine was fitted with a closed cabin for sound insulation but primarily to increase the safety level. The saw was also improved with respect to noise level and safety. The machine could now also be ordered with servo axes for higher precision.

In 1999, a new control system was developed with a more modern PLC control and a PC program for 32-bit operating systems. The basic design is the same as for the SPL160.2, but now with the ability to axis-control the Kerve milling cutter for automatic adjustment of angle and depth.
SPL160_W32
In 2005, a new PC program was developed for 32-bit operating systems such as WXP or W7. The program is offered as an upgrade package for SPL160.1 and SPL160.2 machines, consisting of a new operator console with computer, screen, buttons and switches.
